Below are some suggestions for activities.

Would you consider incorporating any of them in your classrooms? Which ones, and to address which curriculum topics?

Please comment on the suggested activities with feedback on things like:
-feasibility
-applications of these activities or additional ideas/ strategies
-estimation of necessary time to allot
-suggestions for extension or enrichment, etc.

o Draw to scale a tall ship using chalk or masking tape, masking out the shape of a boat, including general features, such as deck, masts or build parts of a ship using wood/ dowels
o Build a rudder for discussion of correction while steering.
o Calculate the area of the sails – build the sails using canvas so that they can be raised and lowered
o Have students create journals – perhaps blogs, to comment on their experiences. to discuss organisms they see, i.e., birds, dolphins, etc…
o Incorporate Estuary module of RiverVenture; Bull’s Island episode of NatureScene; Estuary module of SC Life
o PVC underwater camera
o Collaborative video project about an approved topic of choice, i.e., pirates, lobsters, etc…
o ELA project using a word bank
o Incorporating architectural/ mechanical drawings in personal journals (explaining how something works to someone else).
o Plot a position on a chart read by GPS
